Entertainment at Lybster for guests on a North East Explorer Tour!
Whilst enjoying one of our popular day tours today, our guests were given the added bonus of an insight into the current filming of ‘The Crown’ Series 4.
Expected to cover the late 1970s and 1980s, Series 4 has already announced the inclusion of Gillian Anderson as PM Margaret Thatcher and the young British rising star, Emma Corrin as Lady Diana Spencer.
As the Show heads into the 1980s, the Falklands War is expected to play a major part and so it was with delight in Caithness that Lybster, on the east coast south of Wick, was chosen to feature as one of the filming locations.
During our guests’ visit to Lybster today they were able to see the harbour being set up as Port Leith in South Georgia. This is where Argentinian scrap metal merchants arrived on the island in March 1982, an incident which in turn contributed to the start of the Falklands War.
Construction and prop teams were setting up some of the outbuildings in the scenic harbour to resemble those of Port Leith as they prepared for filming on the 18th September.
Meanwhile, filming will also take place at Keiss, located between John O’Groats and Wick, where the harbour will be transformed into the site where Lord Mountbatten was assassinated at Mullaghmore in Ireland 40 years ago.
